In this episode of the Mo Money series, we spoke to Tunde, a 30-year-old Bolt driver, who tried to make an extra source of income by playing bet9ja and ended up getting broke.
How are you feeling today?
I feel great! I feel grateful to be alive and well right now.
Nice. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure. My name is Tunde, and I am an Uber driver and a businessman.
Oh really? What business are you into?
I have 2 cars that I rent out to people for the same Uber business, and at least every week, I make an extra 300k from it.
Wow. that is very innovative!
Yes o. Money must be made by all means.
So, how did you end up getting broke?
Hmm my dear, three years ago this Uber business was not as lucrative as it is now. I was doing this Uber business in the east and there wasn’t much profit. So I had to look for a means to survive.
So what did you do?
I tried playing bet9ja. The first 2 times I tried, I made 100k! Ah, I was motivated. It felt like something easy to make. Little did I know, that was the beginning of the end.
What happened?
I put half of the profit back in because I wanted to make more. I tried 3 times and it failed. But because I had won 2 times in a row, I felt I would get that luck again. That was how I emptied my account on bet9ja and became broke.
Damn! That’s terrible
It is o. I was very broke and depressed. I even started selling pure water lowkey. But God intervened.
So how did you overcome this?
I decided to leave the East and move to Abuja to try the Uber business there. So I spoke with a friend who lived there to accommodate me for a few weeks, and he did. That was how I started afresh.
And how has it been?
I made my first million and even purchased 2 cars. Those cars are now rented to fellow Uber drivers, who pay me weekly for using my car. If you ask me, I’m doing just fine!
Wow, what a turn of events.
Yes o! I’m just glad with the way everything turned out.
